About NDF Inc
NDF Inc was founded by Kudzai Nyamande, a PhD candidate and seasoned mental health practitioner with over 30 years of experience across mental health nursing, psychology, and social care. His professional journey has been driven by a deep passion for supporting migrant and marginalised communities, particularly those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, including African communities in Australia.
Kudzai’s work is grounded in Ubuntu—a Bantu philosophy centred on humanity, solidarity, reciprocity, and communal harmony. This philosophy shapes the values and direction of NDF Inc, which seeks to build culturally responsive mental health initiatives that genuinely reflect the lived experiences of the communities it serves.
NDF Inc was established as a direct response to Kudzai’s PhD research, which investigated the low rates of mental health service utilisation among minority populations in Australia. His research identified critical gaps in cultural competence and the need to reframe how mental health is understood and communicated within these communities. These insights are now at the heart of NDF Inc’s advocacy, outreach, and service delivery efforts.
As part of its practical commitment to community wellbeing, NDF Inc currently operates a culturally tailored crisis support line, primarily serving Zimbabwean communities in Australia. The service provides a safe and accessible space for individuals to seek help and connect with someone who understands their cultural context. Plans are underway to expand this vital support to reach other migrant populations, ensuring that no one is left behind due to cultural or linguistic barriers in times of crisis.
Through grassroots engagement, research-informed programs, and culturally grounded practices, NDF Inc is working to build a more inclusive and equitable mental health system for all.
Kudzai also works as a lecturer in universities which include UNISA and Flinders University.
Kudzai is also a author and has co-written a book about Ubuntu titled : UBUNTU: A philosophy of our humanity applied to physical and mental healthcare.
